SPANISH VOCABULARY YOU NEED TO KNOW TO RENT A FLAT

So, how is your search going? Have you already learned what “timing is everything” means in renting propriety? I’ve learned quite pronto. So, don’t waste your time and learn some español!

Here you will find the essential Spanish vocabulary you need to know when looking for a flat in Barcelona:

HABITACIONES – rooms

dormitorio – bedroom
baño – bathroom, con bañera – with a bath, ducha – prysznic
cocina – kitchen,
cocina americana –  kitchenette, kitchen integrated with living room
comedor – dining room

trastero – box room/storage
plaza de garaje – garage space
azotea – rooftop terrace

PISO – flat

segunda mano – second hand
buen estado – good condition
recién reformado – recently remodeled
finca – the whole tenants house
con/sin ascensor – with/out lift

calefacción – heating
aire acondicionado – air conditioning

exterior – with windows on the street
interior – with windows on patio (in BCN it might be a huge interior patio or a tiny dark one, so better verify)
tranquilo – quiet

ático – penthouse, attic, the highest floor
principal – first floor (this is why the 1st floor “planta 1ª” is actually the second one)

muy bien comunicado – very well connected

suministros – supply/maintenance fees like electricity or water

FURNITURE

cocina equipada – fully-fitted kitchen
casa sin amueblar – flat with no furniture
amueblado – furnished

armarios empotrados – built-in closets

vigas vistas – exposed beams, wood ceilings
persianas -window shades
